MSR SYSTEMS - Programs Included

MSR raw data is formatted with text and commas so it may be imported into databases and spreadsheets (see example data on following page). Only the plot number is recorded in the raw data. To perform statistical analysis of the data, numbers can be added which identify the factors associated with the plot number. A file of numerical factor identifiers for the experiment can be created and merged with the MSR raw data by use of included programs (FACTORID.EXE and POSTPROC.EXE).

Several other programs are also supplied to operate directly on the raw data after it has been downloaded to a PC and stored in a file. These programs are specifically written to operate on MSR data but will also operate on ancillary data if the data is formatted properly.

MSR.BAS - MSR operating program lines (this is a BASIC language program which runs in the Data Logger Controller, DLC, to obtain the radiometer readings).

MSRMENU MSR Menu driver for post analysis formatting and analysis programs. It contains the following functional programs (executable programs which runs on IBM* PC compatible computers):

TERMINAL - A program that enables communication between a PC and the DLC and provides a direct operator interface to the DLC.
RETRIEVE - Retrieves configuration/status, calibration constants and raw data from the DLC and stores it in a PC file.
POSTPROC - Processes data files retrieved from the MSR program in the DLC. Merges EXPERIMENT FACTOR NAMES, extra channel names, and will apply sensor sunangle cosine corrections (based on date, time, latitude and longitude) and sensor temperature corrections to the millivolt readings before calculating percent reflection.
UPLDMSR - Uploads the MSR program from the MSR.BAS PC file to the DLC.
UPMSRDEL - Upload Modifications to the MSR.BAS Program in the DLC.
UPDLCDEL - Upload Modifications to the DLC.BAS program in the DLC.
SAVECONF - Saves/Restores MSR configuration and calibration coefficients to/from PC files.
SAMPTIME - Calculates the MSR sample time windows for allowable sunangles given location, date, time, and Greenwich Mean Time difference to your time zone. Used in planning your sampling schedules.
SUNANGLE - Sunangles for Given Location and Day or Date Range.
VIEW - Allows viewing of ASCII files on any disk or directory.
FORMAT - Preprocess, Format, or Sort Data
- FACTORID - Prepares factor identification for each plot. Usually an experiment is designed so that statistical analysis can be performed on the data. Numbers are assigned to the factors and are entered sequentially by plot number.
- IDMERGE - Merges factor identifications into ancillary data files.
- LAYOUT - Formats the output of data into ROWS and COLUMNS representing the actual plot layout in the field.
- EXTRACH - Prepares a file containing names and data formatting information for the extra channels configured by the RECORD statement. (For MSR16 only).
- PREPROC - Processes data from a stand-alone MSR system, running under the DLC.BAS operations program, to produce a raw data file in a format for input to the POSTPROC program.
- SORTFILE - Sorts a formatted MSR file by any column. It is useful for sorting MSR data and ancillary data by plot number for nth order regression analysis.
- ADDCOM - Insert Commas After Each Item of Each Record
- ANALYSIS - Analysis Programs
  - ANOVA - A general analysis of variance program which operates on formatted MSR data files. It will handle any number of factors. Use of the correct mean squares to calculate F values will depend on the experimental design.
  - NTHREG - An nth order multiple regression analysis program which operates on formatted MSR data files and on matching ancillary files sorted by plot number.
EXAMPLES - Displays examples of typical MSR data files and typical outputs from the above programs.
